What I Have Learned...
ART102, Principles of Drawing:
What we have learned this semester is realistic drawing using graphite; drawing by measuring proportions, angles; rendering using correct values for the local color, light side, highlight, form and cast shadows with the four basic forms; still life with drapery; landscape and atmospheric perspective; and lastly, cityscape and linear perspective.
I am getting into the gaming arts and design field. While most video games and animation rely heavily on software, nothing beats brainstorming ideas like traditional art. Sketches and traditional art techniques still play a crucial role in the creative process, and this class has taught me a lot of techniques that I can apply to my video games.
ART103, Elements of Visual Designs:
What we have learned this semester is 2D Design which encompasses design, focal point, line, texture, unity, shape, value, space, and balance. We have also learned color theory which includes properties of color, the color wheel, color schemes, values, saturation, color combinations and interactions, atmospheric lighting, creating the illusion of depth with color, and color and meaning. Lastly, we have been learning about portfolios and building our own portfolio to showcase our artwork.
I am getting into the gaming arts and design field. Using these new elements, I can now enhance the color palette, lighting, and depth of both my characters and environment design. These new techniques will help me to create unique aesthetics and improve the visual style of my video games and, hopefully, help in conveying mood, atmosphere, and narrative.
